Avalon’s unique value is rooted in the reality that the symptoms and signs of these invisible wounds are interrelated and difficult to diagnose. We provide a single point of contact and one integrative assessment for the symptoms of TBI and PTSD to identify and point veterans and first responders to the most effective clinical or non-clinical pathways they need.

Traumatic Brain Injury

People suffering with Traumatic Brain Injury may not even understand that their symptoms -- such as difficulty concentrating, anger, anxiety, fatigue, depression or light/sound sensitivity -- are due to a physical injury, not inevitable reactions to their battlefield experiences.

Our partners’ clinical care for TBI provides specialty, interdisciplinary care for mild-to-moderate traumatic brain injuries and changes in psychological health. Patients suffering from traumatic brain injuries receive comprehensive care from experts in brain health who work hand in hand with patients to treat the physical, emotional, and cognitive changes that accompany trauma to the brain. Intensive clinical and outpatient programs combine the best tools in traditional rehabilitation with complementary medicines.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Depression

Veterans and first responders suffering with PTSD-related symptoms and depression are often self-isolated or medicated to dull symptoms. Their training honed them to sleep lightly, react to danger with lightning speed, and serve a greater purpose with their peers. These hard-earned skills can exacerbate post-traumatic stress symptoms upon reentry, often leading to hopelessness, especially if veterans are labeled with a forever “disorder” and/or left to believe life-long medication is their only solution.

Substance Addiction and Dependency

More than 1 in 5 veterans with post-traumatic stress suffer from the burden of co-occurring dependence on drugs or alcohol. And over 70% of veterans who die by suicide are either drunk or high at the time of their death.
